Ripley Layne

I started to lose my hair when I was 24. My hair was always my ‘thing’. I had nice hair—it was ridiculously thick. One day I noticed my hair was a bit thinner. My first thought was that my hairdresser had thinned it too much. But then I started seeing clumps of it on my pillow, and I began to freak out. I started combing it all down and became afraid people would notice if the wind blew.

It knocked my confidence for a few years. People didn’t really talk about hair loss back then. You just had to deal with it in silence. Eventually, I stopped going out. I would wash my hair, hate it, rewash my hair, hate it; and just never leave the house. I had lost all my confidence and had really low self-esteem. I was scared because I knew I wouldn’t suit a bald head. So I could never make the jump to shaving it all off.

I went through every lotion and potion I could find to hide the loss, including hair fibres. The hair fibres would wash out in the rain. Nothing worked.

As I turned 29, I started to think about getting a hair transplant. Back then, transplants weren't very good, and deep down I knew they wouldn't give me the hair I wanted. So I started researching into other options.

I found a place in Birmingham that offered hair replacement systems. Once I tried a hair system, I knew it was the right solution for me. I had thick, stylish hair again. I couldn’t be happier!

After a couple of years, I moved to Leeds, but I was still travelling back to Birmingham every 4-6 weeks for hair maintenance appointments. Then I started having bad experiences at the salon. They didn’t seem to care as much anymore. It had become all about money. They began turning people around faster—one in, one out. Strict one-hour appointments started feeling rushed. I was leaving the salon unhappy. I kept telling them that my system didn’t look right and they gaslighted me, telling me I was ‘paranoid’ and ‘over-exaggerating’.

For a while, I was distraught, I was paying the salon to boost my confidence but leaving feeling even more self-conscious than when I went in. My hair systems started looking obviously fake. They were doing an abysmal job.

At one of the appointments, after a particularly rushed and severe cut around the fringe, I told them I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the salon. They didn’t care. They told me to go so that the next client could come in.

From the moment I met Tracey, I felt very at ease. She made me feel myself again, she gave me my confidence back.

So I started to look around again and found Tracey in Leeds. I sent Tracey an email, and she called me back. I went in for a consultation, wearing the system from Birmingham, and she was horrified. I knew it didn’t look great, but she was even more appalled than I was! She sorted it out for free and booked me in for a future appointment. I’ve been with Tracey for over 3 years now.

From the moment I met Tracey, I felt very at ease. She’s a perfectionist. Her attention to detail is staggering. My first hair system with Tracey was incredible. She cut the hairline in perfectly and made it look really natural. She made me feel myself again, she gave me my confidence back.

I’m so glad that I met Tracey. She’s such a nice person. She genuinely cares.
